A Season of Transformation: Raising and Releasing Butterflies

In our classroom, learning comes to life sometimes quite literally! Over the past few weeks, our preschoolers have had the joy of raising caterpillars and witnessing their incredible transformation into butterflies.
From tiny wriggling larvae to delicate chrysalises, the children observed each stage with awe and curiosity. They asked thoughtful questions, made detailed drawings, and checked in on their butterfly friends daily, showing gentle care and a growing sense of responsibility.
When the butterflies finally emerged, there were cheers, wide eyes, and many excited whispers. We talked about what it means to grow and change, just like the butterflies and just like each of us. Releasing them into the world was a beautiful moment of celebration and connection. Children waved goodbye, shared wishes for their butterfly friends, and reflected on the journey from caterpillar to winged wonder.
Experiences like these are more than science lessons they’re opportunities for children to engage with nature, build empathy, and discover that transformation is all around us!
